Seit Einführung des privaten Rundfunks in Bayern im Jahre 1985 hat sich dank des Hörfunkkonzepts der BLM eine vielfältige Radiolandschaft entwickelt.Mit lokaler und überregionaler Berichterstattung sowie verschiedenen Musikrichtungen werden unterschiedlichste Zielgruppen bedient. In der werberelevanten Zielgruppe der 14- bis 49-jährigen liegen die privaten Lokalradios vor den öffentlich-rechtlichen Angeboten.Damit alle Regionen Bayerns mit lokalen Informationen und Serviceleistungen versorgt werden können, sind ca. 250 UKW-Frequenzen in Betrieb. Mehr als 60 Lokalradios sind über UKW auf Sendung und werden zusätzlich in das jeweilige lokale Kabelnetz eingespeist.
